Art & Tech Café | Interconnectedness: Our place within a connected planet
*_Due to a malfunction in the primary camera, the first few minutes of audio were affected. Please feel free to skip the introduction and join from 5:00 with better audio._*
*Our place within a connected planet*
The interdependence and interconnectedness of all forms of existence were the starting point of the recent For Love of the World Festival at Theater De Veste. At the final wrap-up, we found ourselves in a new paradigm and in need of new tools to foster a more inclusive, ethical, and innovative approach to understanding and experiencing the world.
Join us at the Art & Tech Café, where we will explore the agency and intelligence of non-human entities such as the objects, animals, and ecologies all around us, so that we may discover new perspectives and a more holistic understanding of the planet with empathy and respect for all beings.
*Milah van Zuilen* is a visual artist and a forest ecologist in training with an interest in the contradiction between the complexity of nature and the human urge to rationalise and neatly organise it for their own benefit.
*Iohanna Nicenboim* is a PhD candidate at TU Delft and a design researcher from the global south with a focus on more-than-human design practices in the context of AI. She developed and co-produced the Noticing Entanglements Podcast.
*Bernice Bovenkerk* is associate professor at the Social Sciences Group, sub department of Communication, Philosophy and Technology of Wageningen University. She has recently been granted a VIDI grant from the Netherlands Organization of Scientific Research on a project titled ‘Anthropocene Ethics: taking animal agency seriously’.
The event is moderated by *Desiree Hoving.*
*Art & Tech Café*
In the Art & Tech Café we invite artists who work on the intersection of art and technology to explore pressing social issues by means of their art. Like technology, art can provide us with a fresh pair of eyes through which we can experience reality in new and unexpected ways. And discover things we may not have known before. Join us to explore new paradigms and perspectives!

In essence, this is taking about ways of knowing. Indigenous ways of knowing is almost the exact opposite of western ways of knowing. This way of thinking just makes more sense, particularly if we are trying to restore balance and harmony with nature and Mother Earth.

Brainwashed by hyperbole. There is no crisis, merely a challenge, not to undo past mistakes, but to create solutions to a world that has always had a changing climate, because the people who seem to believe that the planet should be in equilibrium are simply wrong. There is no energy budget. There is no reason that whatever comes in must = the same value that must come out! Technology will not fix the world, just move the problem somewhere else. Too long, didn't watch.

oohh! Ive never understood the surface of a BH is what is needed to describe the information contained within. How? The volume of a sphere is so much bigger than its surface. But the way he described it, it has to do with limits which i never knew! Thats the max because any more and you would create a BH. It's sort of like ti determine a particles position to higher and higher accuracy you need to use ever increasing frequency and energy until at the Planck length again you create a BH. Gee I hope this understanding is right because ever since the PBS Space-time episode about this topic ive been confused and frustrated that I didnt get it.

@@Pianda I've watched this video years ago. It's easy to see this as insulting to Africans, but an open mind and a willingness to seek truth wherever it leads. Europeans / westerners often suffer from depression and anxiety, a result of too much self awareness and abstract thought. Something not found in African cultures. No race is better than the other, they are different.

The origin of momentum creation is founded on the application of energy. Momentum serves as the initial cause of pushing and pulling. The energy, emanating from the internal core of a planet, is what gives rise to momentum, commonly referred to as gravity, and not due to the planet’s size, mass, or space-time curvature. For example, when energy is applied, it generates the necessary momentum for the actions of pushing and pulling. Without the application of energy, momentum cannot be established. Consequently, force cannot be exerted for pushing and pulling, as it lacks a physical existence. This, in turn, clarifies why force is not gravity. ~Guadalupe Guerra

The selfish impulse is not intrinsic as Daniel Schmachtenberger pointed out in his GITA talk ua-cam.com/video/nvAbKE8-jYA/v-deo.html "I had a teacher of anthropology that would have been like 110 now when I was young. He was very old and he had the fortune of getting to be the first Western person to contact many indigenous tribes, or one of the first, that were still separate from Western civilization and modern civilization writ large. He was doing cultural analysis on seeing how much the current modern society model had become ubiquitous conditioning (in all of our studies of human nature were inside of ubiquitous conditioning, so you can't really call it nature), and so he wanted to see the things that hadn't been conditioned in that way and if human nature actually expressed differently. So he was looking at the most violent and least violent cultures and looking at what it's a function of, and one of the key things was looking at how it was a function of language. I actually had a couple teachers that had looked at this deeply. One of the most profound insights was they said that in some of the island Polynesian cultures and some of the Amazonian cultures that were still extremely non-violent, both inter and intra-tribe, they didn't have the word mine in their language. First person possessive just wasn't even a word. And in other ones they had the word, but it was extremely de-emphasized. It was like a strange word to refer to a bad idea. And they had "ours", but even "ours" (possession) didn't mean the same thing, it had the concept of stewardship built into the semantic itself. And mine is actually one of the first words that most kids in our culture learn. And one of the things that they found was that the cultures that didn't have the word mine also didn't have the word or the prevalence of the words greed, selfish or jealousy. Because those were not just innate human emotions that are always there, they were actually memetic constructs. If you have a shared ownership situation in a tribe, but it's not ownership because you don't have massive surplus, so you don't have radical wealth inequality, everybody shares stuff, whoever goes fishing, that's for everybody, whoever is picking berries... is you just don't build those same constructs in terms of I want what they have, it just doesn't occur in the same way. So there are so many constructs that we have that we take for granted as just human nature that we have to work with that are actually at the foundation of our problems. So I mentioned that because the word resource is an inherently violent word. The way we think of it. The way we've defined it. Human Resources is: how do we see sentient human beings, who are somebody's baby, who are going to be on their deathbed reflecting upon their purpose in life, and if they use their time, how do we see them as a resource for a company that has a fiduciary responsibility to profit maximize. They're, not f#$king human resources, they're human beings. And talking about natural resources - is a whale a natural resource? Because it is if you're running a whaling boat. A whale's a natural resource. Is it any sentient animal? Is an ecosystem that we devastate a natural resource? Black people used to be natural resources - meaning part of the chattel the same way we treat cows. So the word and concept resource has to go. Like it just fundamentally the idea man's dominion over everything is here for us. If we can control it and extract it, it's about its utility value, rather than intrinsic value for us. At the heart of the ideas that has to go is that. So I want to throw out the concept of resource to begin with. And I want to say that words like mine and resource and like they're colonized colonizer-mind concepts."
